Public Works, Engineering Division
Plans, designs, constructs, and manages, capital improvement, utilities, intersection, facilities, and fence projects; reviews and approves civil engineering plans; and fulfills traffic engineering requests (i.e. evaluate need for traffic signs and signals, review signal timing, coordinate construction detours, etc.)
This position is a contingent position and is eligible for medical benefits only. 
Despite the changes in Colorado law, the City of Aurora maintains a drug free workplace.  A positive test of marijuana is grounds for disqualification and ineligibility for employment with the city for one year or termination once hired.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

As assigned, incumbents provide:

  • Plans and coordinates the engineering records functions to include fee calculations, operation and maintenance of all computer and paper record filing systems, and direct client contact with the public
  • Assists with Engineering plans, reports, and related records functions
  • Ensures that appropriate procedures are followed in public contact, record keeping, computer entry, plan intake/tracking, and engineering record processing
  • Serves as preliminary point of contact for explanation of process requirements to engineering consultants, contractors and citizens in matters pertaining the submission and approval of plans
  • Works to resolve inquiries, conflicts, and citizens' complaints
  • Compiles and prepares a variety of materials for technical, statistical, and analytical reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 2 years of administrative support experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications:
As assigned, specialized certifications may be required, such as:
  • Driver's License

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: 

  • Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer and office equipment
  • Vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment: 
  • Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment.

Equipment Used: 
  • Frequently uses computer and standard office equipment.
