Public Works - Facilities Operations

Public Works, Facilities Operations takes great pride and is dedicated to sustain the integrity of all associated building systems within 135 plus buildings that includes City Hall, Police and Fire Stations, Recreation Centers, Swimming Pools, Libraries, Courts, Detention Center and City Golf Course Buildings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts preventive maintenance inspections of buildings and facilities assigned by area within the City boundaries
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks
  • Monitors and provides quality control and services of  outside contractors
  • Performs minor repairs
  • Performs semi-skilled maintenance tasks including: minor plumbing repair, lighting repair, HVAC tasks, roof repair, flooring repair, interior and exterior painting, drywall repairs, ceiling tiles replacement and door hardware repairs
  • Operates and uses a variety of tools and equipment related to maintenance function
  • Maintains various records such as equipment, time, material and parts inventory
  • May assist in training other employees
  • May act as lead worker; assist with snow plow duties
  • Rotational emergency on-call duty
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:  
  • At least 2 years commercial building and facilities construction/maintenance experience

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications:  As assigned, specialized certifications may be required such as:
  • Driver's License
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate to heavy physical work depending upon assigned function
  • May require ability to lift a maximum of 100 pounds with or without assistance
  • May lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Considerable walking and standing
  • Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing to heights of 30ft
  • Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of tools, equipment and vehicles
  • Vision to read manuals and record data and monitor and observe instruments and gauges
  • Hearing/listening for troubleshooting and warning signals
  • Speech communication provide technical information and communicate with employees and citizens. 

Work Environment:
  • Works both Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, fumes,chemicals, paints, and building materials.
  • May work on roofs, crawl spaces, secured areas, and confined spaces
  • May work on call and varying shifts

Equipment Used:
  • Operates equipment and vehicles common to facilities maintenance
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment common to construction and maintenance; operates vehicles such as snow plows
