Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates and develops and variety of special projects, contract management, and grant implementation, under the direction of the Parks and Forestry Manager. 

  • Incumbent efficiently and effectively executes designated projects
  • May be responsible for planning, administering and completing assigned projects, which may cross several functional areas, such as facilities, operations, water resources, construction, engineering, marketing or administrations. 
  • Assignments may vary in length and complexity but are generally not permanent.  May provide direction to a project team including assignment of individual responsibilities, tasks and technical functions
  • Identifies needs and allocates the appropriate resources to meet the timely completion of specific project tasks
  • Assists in the development of the project scope and objectives
  • Assists in creating work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plants and status reports. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, or a directly related field.
Experience:
  • At least 3 years progressively responsible experience in parks and open space project management, preferably in a public sector organization.
A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements on a year for year basis.

Knowledge: Knowledge of the principles and practices project management; planning and contract coordination; resource development; personal computers and related software, including office 365; working and communicating with contractors for project needs and schedules; standard office practices and procedures.

Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and contractors; handles sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; conduct research and analysis; establish and fulfill goals and objectives; plan, organize and direct projects and special reports; maintain accurate records; and understand, interpret and apply policies and procedures.

Skills: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communications skills.

Licenses or Certificates Required:
  • Colorado driver's license with an excellent driving record
  • Project Management Institute Certification (Preferred)

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate a computer system and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:
  • Works both indoors and outdoors with some exposure to varying weather conditions with exposure to sun, dust and noise.
  • Must be available for after-hour and weekend work activities as assigned.
Equipment Used:
  • Personal computer and related software and peripheral equipment; motor vehicle.
