Department Information
 Aurora Water is committed to enhancing and protecting the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing safe, dependable and sustainable water, sewer and stormwater services, today and in the future. The Public Relations division of Aurora Water is looking for a Natural Resources Senior Specialist for it's Education team. This position requires flexibility, adaptability, a willingness to learn new skills and a person who is collaborative and organized with a strong sense of environmental ethics.

The Hiring Range for this position is $65,291.20 - $79,996.80 Annually

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under direction of the Aurora Water Education Program Supervisor, implements the youth education program including classroom presentations, assemblies, annual events as well as teacher education and outreach
  • Under direction of the Aurora Water Education Program Supervisor, implements adult education programming related to water conservation, watershed protection and Aurora's complex water supply system.
  • Assists in preparing and coordinating the annual Youth Water Festival and the Forests to Faucets teacher workshop
  • Correlates program components to align with school district curriculum and standards
  • Represents Aurora Water with peer agencies, local groups and committees
  • Coordinates with regional and local partners to develop educational programs for the Front Range
  • Acts as liaison with industry groups both in the front range and in the upper watersheds associated with Aurora's water system
  • As assigned, incumbents may serve as a lead workers making work assignments and monitoring work completion of professional staff
  • Research and evaluates program needs and effectiveness
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in natural resources, environmental sciences, education or related field

  • 6 years of program development & management, classroom presentation and education experience. 

Experience EquivalencyAdditional relevant education may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree
  • Experience in environmental education
  • Experience with public speaking and presentation

  • Driver's License with a good driving history.

Knowledge: Knowledge of western water and environmental issues, educational training techniques.

Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare technical and non-technical documents; make public presentations to a wide variety of audiences; and develop promotional, informational and educational programs. Ability to work some evenings and weekends if required.

Skills: Must exhibit strong interpersonal communications and collaboration skills; strong customer service skills; strong attention to detail and organizational skills; strong data analysis skills; proficient at Microsoft Office Suite; bilingual preferred but not required.  

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; some lifting and carrying of materials for presentations and displays; some walking and standing; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens; vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard; foot/eye coordination for operation of motor vehicle to presentation sites.

Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment.

Equipment Used: Personal computer, desk phone, cell phone, some vehicle use; personal protective equipment for building assessments.This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
