Department Information
This position is with the Water Conservation Division of Aurora Water Department. Aurora Water is committed to enhancing and protecting the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing safe, dependable and sustainable water, sewer and stormwater services, today and in the future.

This position is responsible for submitting periodic reports to the state and the Aurora Water Department; and creating efficiencies within Water Conservation programs and processes by maintaining, improving and developing tools and processes.  This position must utilize ArcGIS to help with the program analysis as well as other possible data management and statistical software.

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular analysis on conservation programs
  • Draft reports and presentations on the effectiveness of conservation efforts in Aurora
  • Assist in the development of tools and processes to create efficiencies within programs
  • Provide analytical support for the Water Conservation Team
  • Assess Water Conservation programs to determine the cost/benefit parameters to assist in recommendations and improvements for existing programs
  • Prepare and make presentations on a variety of educational and informational programs about water and water conservation
  • Respond to questions and inquiries from both the public and other city departments  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, statistics, mathematics, economics, data science or a related field
Experience:
  • 2 years of experience in water conservation, natural resources or urban/municipal planning

Our ideal candidate must possess;
  • 2 years experience with ArcGIS
  • Experience in sustainability, public outreach/communications, analytics or similar
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new skills
  • Be collaborative and organized with a strong sense of environmental ethics

Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements on a year for year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Driver's License

Knowledge: Knowledge of statistics, analytical methods and ArcGIS.

Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, and citizens; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare technical and non-technical documents; make public presentations to a wide variety of audiences; and develop promotional, informational, and educational programs.

Skills: Must exhibit strong computer and analytical skills with knowledge and understanding of how to use ArcGIS, Excel, and similar programs to process and present large amounts of data.  Must be good at writing both technical and non-technical reports. Knowledge of VBA, Python or other scripting language is beneficial.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Light to moderate physical work depending upon assigned function; may require ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; some lifting and carrying of materials for presentations and displays; some walking and standing; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens; vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard; foot/eye coordination for operation of motor vehicle to presentation sites.
Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment.
Equipment Used: Personal computer, desk phone, cell phone, some vehicle use.
