Department Information
The Transportation Projects Delivery (TPD) Group within the Public Works Department promotes and maintains a high level of economic welfare and quality of life in Aurora by planning, designing, and constructing significant portions of the city's transportation and drainage infrastructure.  The TPD is looking for a motivated self-starter to assist project engineers and managers with financial planning, tracking, and reporting for TPD capital projects.

This is a temporary position that is evaluated on a yearly basis. This is a full-time (40 hours a week) contingent position with medical benefits only.

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing financial services support to the Transportation Projects Delivery Group within Public Works. The Transportation Projects Delivery team currently has over $35,000,000 in design and construction projects to monitor and complete. This position reports to the Transportation Projects Delivery Manager, or designee, and will work closely with the Public Works' Manager of Business Services.

  • Coordinates, administers and tracks the progress of numerous complex transportation projects with multi-party funding sources
  • Develops, implements, and maintains systems to monitor the status of all projects in their various phases
  • Assesses and determines City's project and contract requirements including appropriate authorizations, specific processes, and schedule for specific projects
  • Exhibits strong organization skills to successfully manage multiple funding sources, contractors, and sub-projects with multiple deadlines
  • Organizes and maintains all related project records
  • Accountable for generating accurate and timely reports, assisting with and monitoring internal financial control activities, responding to data requests and developing/maintaining/supporting project performance
  • Coordinates with Project Managers to obtain monthly updates
  • Assists Project Managers in providing accurate project forecasting and review of expenditures to ensure payment requests are supported by appropriate documentation, are consistent with each individual contract, and properly reflect costs incurred
  • Knowledge of applicable grant compliance requirements, advanced MS Excel skills and familiarity with databases and analytics reporting tools are desirable
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  

  • Associate's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field 
     
Experience:  
  • Three (3) years of experience related to the area of assignment

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge:
  • Understanding of general accounting and finance practices

Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and outside vendors
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Establish and fulfill goals and objectives
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines with little supervision

Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills

Licenses and Certifications:  
  • Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record

Physical Demands

  • Occasional physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds
  • Frequent walking and standing
  • Hand/eye coordination for operation of a computer keyboard
  • Vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents
  • Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees foot/eye coordination to operate a motor vehicle
 
Work Environment
  • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment 
 
Equipment Used
  • Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
