- Summary of Job Duties
The Engineering Division of the Public Works Department is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and perform professional engineering work under the supervision and direction of the Facility Project Delivery Manager to support the Engineering Services Division of the Public Works Department.
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for supervising project engineers and managers overseeing public facility maintenance and construction projects. Plans, organizes, and directs complex engineering analysis and manages complex projects under the supervision of the Facility Project Delivery Manager. Provides technical expertise directly or through subordinate staff in these areas and others identified below.

- PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, reviews, develops and coordinates the design and construction of facility projects from project conception to completion
- Supervises, evaluates, trains and instructs assigned staff
- Supervises consultant work
- Develops criteria and designs for complex engineering projects
- Acts as a team leader for design engineers, technicians, and other support personnel
- Provides professional/technical assistance to citizens, other departments, management, and City Council
- Reviews construction plans and specifications
- Ensures compliance with design, City policies and procedures, and governmental regulations
- Establishes plans, schedules, project priorities, and reviews work of subordinates in preparing plans, specifications and cost estimates for projects
- Develops and implements work procedures and policies
- Develops operational priorities, goals, and objectives for assigned employees
- Negotiates contracts, make presentations, recommends for approval construction documents for public construction
- Supervises project engineers, project managers, and other employees as assigned
- Determines and establishes design construction standards and materials
- Participates as hiring supervisor in selection, hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining assigned employees
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural, Architectural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a directly related field
- Seven (7) years progressively responsible professional engineering work in assigned function
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience, required
- Experience in municipal engineering, preferred
- Knowledge of current engineering principles and practices applicable to the assigned
- Knowledge of international, federal, state and municipal building design requirements, codes and specification
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of land development and building construction and maintenance
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the public, commissions, City Council, and city staff regarding development projects and issues
- Establish and fulfill goals and objectives
- Effectively supervise other employees
- Plan and schedule work unit operations
- Interpret codes and criteria
- Use computer design and optimization software
- Make decisions and solve complex technical problems
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
- Skills in the use of field and office engineering instruments and equipment
Licenses and/or Certificates:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) with the State of Colorado
- Or the ability to obtain through reciprocity from another state within 6 months of employment
- Colorado driver's license with a good driving history
- WORKING CONDITIONS
- Light to sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 15 pounds
- Occasional lifting and carrying
- Frequent walking and standing for fieldwork and meetings
- Vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents as well as produce design work
- Hand/eye coordination for operation of a computer keyboard and engineering instruments
- Hand/foot/eye coordination to operate a motor vehicle
- Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
- Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment with occasional outdoor work including exposure to varying weather conditions, noise and dust, and traffic and electrical hazards
- Personal computer, engineering instruments; electronic components; motor vehicle
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
