The Position:
The City of Aurora is seeking a skilled Irrigation Specialist to work at the Murphy Creek Golf Course to performs skilled manual and technical work involved in the maintenance, operation and management of a golf course irrigation system(s); and pump stations; including, planning,
scheduling, modifying, organizing, and securing materials and equipment, for the accomplishment of assigned tasks..

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the maintenance, and operation of irrigation system(s), and pump
    stations.
  • Performs all necessary repairs related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves, sprinkler heads, pipes, control wires etc.
  • Operates and manipulates complex computerized irrigation control programs.
  • Designs and responsible for the installation of new irrigation.
  • Performs and coordinates routine golf course maintenance activities.
  • Operates or uses a variety of tools and equipment related to golf course maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Maintains various records.
  • Assists in training other employees.
  • Performs lead worker duties on various maintenance projects and weekend employee supervision.
  • Responds to after hour irrigation issues, assists with City-wide snow removal.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: At least 4 years directly related golf course maintenance experience to include 1 year experience in the operation and maintenance of computerized golf course irrigation systems.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge: Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools, and equipment used in performing assigned irrigation and maintenance functions and applicable safety practices and procedures is required.

Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; train and instruct other employees; keep and maintain accurate records; and organize and schedule tools, materials, and equipment to accomplish tasks. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible overtime.

Skills: Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to parks maintenance and irrigation construction functions; intermediate computer skills and related software applications.

Licenses, Certificates or Equipment Required:
  • Ability to obtain a Class B Colorado Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement, Colorado Pesticide Applicator 206 Turf Pest Control category license within 1 year of employment.
  • May require other licensing and/or certification appropriate to job function.

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; considerable walking and standing; frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing; hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles; vision to read manuals and record data and monitor and observe instruments and gages; hearing/listening for troubleshooting and warning signals; speech communication provide technical information and communicate with employees and citizens.

Work Environment: Works both indoors and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, fumes, dust, and chemicals; work may be performed in a confined space; and able to work weekends.

Equipment Used: Operates tools, equipment, and vehicles common to parks construction and maintenance; operates vehicles such as dump trucks, snowplows, tractors, and various specialized equipment (such as heavy and light loaders, backhoes, skid loaders, trenchers, and graders) used for park facility irrigation installation and maintenance; computers with related office and irrigation software; and computerized communication devices.
