Overall Job Objective

Summary of Job Duties

The city of Aurora is continually seeking qualified, temporary Tennis Instructors.  Applicants should be available for flexible days, times and locations.
 

This position is a temporary/seasonal position and not benefit eligible at this time.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications throughout the year; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
 

Tennis Instructor I is responsible for planning and implementing daily tennis activities designed to meet the ability levels of each student.

Tennis Instructor II is responsible for planning and implementing daily tennis activities designed to meet the ability levels of each student; teach private lessons; supervise employees; supervise non-league programming.

Tennis Instructor III is responsible for planning and implementing daily tennis activities designed to meet the ability levels; teaching private lessons; supervising and training employees; supervising non-league programming and tournaments.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Tennis Instructor I
This is an on court teaching position; little to no teaching experience; Instruct Youth Tennis lessons per provided curriculum; individually supervise up to 10 youth; Maintain a safe environment; Manage paperwork and class attendance (Call participants for canceled classes, Schedule make-up lessons); Setup and take down lesson sites; Trouble-shoot minor problems; Report emergencies; Promote the tennis program through positive relationships.

Tennis Instructor II
This is an on court teaching position; 2-3 years teaching experience; Instruct Youth/Adult Tennis lessons per provided curriculum; Individually supervise up to 10 youth/adults; Teach Private Lessons; Lead and supervise Tennis Instructor I's; Supervise non-league programming; Maintain a safe environment; Manage paperwork and class attendance; Setup and take down lesson sites; Trouble-shoot minor problems; Report emergencies; Promote the tennis program through positive relationships.

Tennis Instructor III
This is an on court teaching position; 5 years teaching experience; Individually supervise and instruct up to 10 Youth/Adult per provided curriculum; Teach Private Lessons; Lead, train, and supervise Tennis Instructor I/II's; Assist implementation of non-league and tournament programming; Maintain a safe environment; Manage paperwork and class attendance; Setup and take down program sites; Trouble-shoot minor/major problems; Report emergencies; Promote the tennis program through positive relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Tennis Instructor I
Experience: Little to No prior teaching experience; Tennis or Childcare background preferred.
Knowledge: Basic knowledge of general tennis stroke production, score keeping, and rules.

Tennis Instructor II
Experience: 2-3 years teaching experience; Tennis and/or Childcare background preferred.
Knowledge: Intermediate knowledge of general tennis stroke production, score keeping, and rules.

Tennis Instructor III
Experience: 5 years teaching experience; Tennis background.
Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of tennis stroke production, score keeping, and rules.

ALL LEVELS
Age: Must be at least 16 years old

Abilities: Ability to provide a fun and safe learning environment for participants. Clearly communicate daily lesson plans, rules, and safety procedures. Handle adverse situations and discipline when needed.

Licenses, Certificates and/or Equipment Required: First Aid/CPR Preferred. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (including cell phone, vehicle, etc.) in the course of their employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

ALL LEVELS

Physical Demands: Moderate physical work including the ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs; Standing for extended periods of time (4-6 hours); Hand eye coordination to wield a tennis racquet, vision to correct participant mistakes; hearing and speech to communicate with participants, employees, and citizens.

Work Environment: Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
