Reporting directly to the Fox Technical Director, the Theater Technician is responsible for the theater's lighting, scenic installation, sound, operation and upkeep.

  • Hangs and rigs lights and scenery
  • Constructs scenery and stage mechanics
  • Wires sound and lighting systems to the specification of the production designer and Technical Director
  • Maintains and repairs lighting and sound equipment as well and scenic elements.
  • Assists rental clients with scenic, sound and lights as needed.
  • Perform facilities maintenance as needed.
  • Participate in scenic, light and sound needs for special events, festivals performance services and marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned.




  • At least two years of carpentry and/or lighting electrician experience. (3 years Preferred) 
  • At least two years in technical theater or equivalent trade (3 years Preferred)
  • Professional experience is considered a greater necessity than formal education.
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Vocational degree in wood or steel working, mechanical engineering or similar field, or commensurate experience.(Preferred)
  • Knowledge of carpentry, theatrical production lighting, light board programming and operation, rigging equipment, and state of the art wood and steel working methods and machinery. Nonessential, but helpful knowledge: Metal working, hydraulics and electric motors.
  • Ability to ensure safety in all work spaces at all times. Ability to work well with little supervision; ability to work successfully with minimal support staff; ability to work well with volunteers; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy; often works nights and weekends.
  • Strong carpentry, electrical, and lighting abilities.

  • Colorado driver's license with good driving history.
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of employment.


Physical Demands:

  • Very physical work depending upon assignment; required regularly to lift and carry in excess of 50 pounds; requires regular standing and walking; requires bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing; eye/hand coordination for computer operation; may require eye/hand/foot coordination for operation of motor vehicle; vision to read reports and other written material; frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain safe work environment.
Work Environment:
  • Works primarily in loud, dusty environment with exposure to heavy machinery, electricity, ladders and tight and confined spaces. Occasionally works in low light conditions. Occasional exposure to Chemicals, firearms and open flame.
Equipment Used:
  • Heavy woodworking, ETC Ion light board operation and other specialized stage lighting equipment, sound and projection equipment. Occasional use of steel or working machinery
